Biography.

Cara Carmina is a Mexican visual artist based in Montréal since 2009. An illustrator, author, textile designer, and doll maker, she has published more than twenty children’s books, several of which she also wrote. Her vibrant, poetic universe draws deeply from her Mexican roots and from iconic figures such as Frida Kahlo, whom she has celebrated in acclaimed albums.

In October 2026, she will join an art residency in Seattle organized in partnership with FASPS and Sjj agency, dedicated to exploring the legacy of Frida Kahlo. During this residency, she will lead creative workshops, meet with students and educators, and participate in several screenings of the animated film Hola Frida!, a project inspired by her own illustrated book.

Passionate about working with children, she shares her creative energy in schools and festivals with a simple message: believe in your dreams. Her distinctive style blends illustration, craft, and storytelling to offer young readers imaginative worlds that nurture confidence, curiosity, and joy.
